After School Hut

The Haygood After School Hut is designed for elementary school-aged children. A year-round program, it operates from 2:30 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. during the academic school year, and from 7:30 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. when school is not in session. Specifically designed for children entering kindergarten through fifth grade, the Hut program supports each child’s independence, creativity and curiosity while encouraging responsibility and accountability. During the school year, the Hut staff provides tutoring and homework assistance and promotes physical activity and camaraderie among peers.

In the summer, the program becomes an all-day, themed summer camp. Hut kids prepare for the summer in advance by voting on a topic to study. The field trips, learning time, projects and play are all designed around the chosen topic. Past themes have included the Transcontinental Railroad, Presidents of the United States and Immigration Stories and Exploration.

  • The Hut is a year-round program for children in Kindergarten through 5th grade that provides after school care during the school year and full-day care during school holidays, teacher workdays and Summer Break.
  • Class ratio is 12:1.
  • Homework assistance is provided each afternoon for children of all ages.
  • Kindergarten children are given special instruction time away from the older children immediately following their arrival at the Hut.
