“The Hut” is for elementary school aged children. This program operates from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm and full days when elementary school is not in session.
The Haygood After School Hut is a designed for elementary-aged children. A year-round program, it operates from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm during the academic school year and from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm when school is not in session. Specifically designed for children entering kindergarten through fifth grade, the Hut program supports each child’s independence, creativity and curiosity, while encouraging responsibility and accountability. During the school year, the Hut staff provides tutoring and homework assistance and promotes physical activity and camaraderie amongst peers.
In the summer, the program becomes an all-day themed summer camp. Hut kids prepare for the summer in advance by voting on a topic to study. The field trips, learning time, projects and play are all designed around the chosen topic. Past themes have included, the Transcontinental Railroad, Presidents of the United States and Immigration Stories and Exploration.
- The Hut is a year-round program or children in grades Kindergarten through 5th, providing after-school care during the school year, full-day care during school holidays, teacher workdays and throughout the summer.
- The class ratio is 12:1.
- Homework assistance is provided each afternoon for children of all ages.
- Kindergarten children are given special instruction time away from the older children immediately following their arrival at the Hut.
